September 1st, 2010 kh No comments

The Maya is a Mesoamerican civilization, noted for the only known fully developed written language of the pre-Columbian Americas, as well as its art, architecture, and mathematical and astronomical systems. The Maya script, also known as Maya glyphs or Maya hieroglyphs, was the writing system of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization of Mesoamerica, presently the only Mesoamerican writing system that has been substantially deciphered. Maya writing used logograms complemented by a set of syllabic glyphs, somewhat similar in function to modern Japanese writing.

Cap drawing depicts the famous Lintel 8 hieroglyphs from Yaxchilan in Mexico featuring the ruler Bird Jaguar capturing two prisoners. On the barrel drawing, it depicts the famous Yaxchilan Lintel 24 which show a the ritual ceremony of Blood letting. The ruler, Shield Jaguar, holds a torch while his consort, Lady Xoc, pulls a rope studded with what are now believed to be obsidian shards through her tongue in order to conjure a vision serpent.
The fountain pen features a 21K Nagahara Togi nib and the cap and barrel is made of sterling silver.

Dimension:
Length with cap posted: 15.6cm
Central circumference: 4.3cm
